Joint forming is one of the traditional forming processes in Jingdezhen. Its basic processing requirements are not so complicated, but it is not an easy work to meet them well. The first step is to put clay on gunny cloth or cotton to pat and roll clay into slices. When they are dried to some extent, Connect them with clay slip and they will be finished when their surfaces are shaved after they are dry. Making of large joint-formed wares takes a lot of time. The main reason is that slices should be naturally dried in a shade, or haste will lead to waste product. The flattening of slices is also quite important and all of them are planed by workers with scrapers. When mending the slices, or they will be easily and damaged if they are not carried in a proper way. Some spare slices are generally in stock so as not to make new slices which have different moisture from the previous ones when some of the previous slices are damaged. It is quite difficult to have such a full consideration for an inexperienced potter.
As for the joint-formed wares of Jingdezhen, potters have not only been able to make the established square, triangle and diamond vessels, but also special shaped vessels with a sense of motion in the curving lines.
